Health & safety tips

  • Ask a travel clinic about malaria prevention; use repellent and cover up from dusk.
  • Carry a yellow fever certificate if you arrive from, or transit through, a country with yellow fever risk.
  • Strong equatorial sun: use high-factor sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses even on cloudy days.
  • Drink bottled or treated water (refills are in the vehicle) and keep personal medication in your day bag.
  • Drives are long and bumpy — mention back or motion-sickness problems so your guide can plan stops.
  • Ngorongoro’s rim sits at about 2,300 m and can be cold at night; pack a fleece.
  • Comprehensive travel insurance with medical evacuation cover is strongly recommended.

General preparation guidance, not medical advice. See a travel-health professional 6–8 weeks before you travel.
