Serengeti National Park

About Serengeti National Park

Serengeti National Park, located in northern Tanzania, is one of the most renowned wildlife reserves in the world — endless plains, resident big cats and the migration that crosses them.

Experience the awe-inspiring Great Migration, where millions of wildebeest, zebras and gazelles embark on a dramatic journey. Where you sleep changes by month: Ndutu and the south for calving, the Seronera valley year-round, Kogatende in the north for the river crossings.

Season by season

Dec – Mar

Calving season on the short-grass plains around Ndutu — up to 8,000 calves a day and constant predator activity.

Apr – May

Long rains, lush and empty. Lowest prices of the year, some camps closed, roads slower.

Jun – Jul

Herds move west and north through the corridor; the Grumeti river crossings begin.

Aug – Oct

Mara river crossings at Kogatende in the far north. The most dramatic and most booked window.

Nov

Short rains push the herds back south. Good value, good birding.

Practical notes

  • •Where you sleep matters more than how long you stay — we move your camp with the herds.
  • •Fly-in to Seronende or Kogatende saves a full day of driving on shorter trips.
  • •Balloon safaris launch at dawn from Seronera and the Ndutu area and must be booked in advance.
  • •The park is 14,750 km²; plan three nights minimum to justify the distance.
